When I received the nudge to write a book and call it Mama Needs a Refill over fourteen years ago, I had no idea the publication of my book would coincide with our youngest going off to college. I also had no idea that before writing the book I would start a coaching and retreat business with the same name. We never know what will happen when we say yes to change.
The nudges we receive are no accident. We always get the choice to answer yes or no to the whisper of inspiration.
I have no idea what an empty nest will look like for my husband and me in the Fall, just as I have no idea what having a published book will look like. The first step to get clear about my vision is to plug into my values and take stock of what’s important.
Do you have an upcoming change on your horizon? Here are some ideas to create your vision for change:
- Shut out the noise and distraction and find a quiet place for you to be with no plans.
- Acknowledge how far you have come and celebrate your recent accomplishments.
- Pull out a journal and write down your values that represent this change.
- How do you want to feel amidst this change? Write that down.
- What next? Write that down. And play with what wants to come out onto the blank page.
- Identify the steps that need to be taken.
- Give yourself grace and be loving and gentle.
Change happens overnight and also takes time. Know that it is okay to have spaciousness during change. It is in the unplanned, quiet, spaciousness that the nudges appear. Don’t rush, enjoy the quiet breeze, embrace the stillness. Listen. Then create and take your first step.
Cheers, Jenny
