The crocus and daffodils are showing their full, bright faces and it’s still February and I want to hunker down under a big cozy blanket. As much as I welcome spring, I’m not quite ready for winter to be over. Mother Nature is saying otherwise with her buds and blossoms. Winter for me is a season of nourishment and reflection, nesting and rest. I want a little more time underground so to speak–still craving that time to just be in a busy world of going and doing.
I was taken aback at the new buds on the fuchsia and hydrangea I was pruning in our yard last week. The plants are ready to come to life and here I was weeding back, making room. I’m not even sure what I want to make room for as my heart is in the winter season, recalibrating, looking at my values, noticing what I want to move toward.
Are you too feeling the push, the rush into the next season both literally and metaphorically or are you ready to bust out, switch gears?
My 2020 word of the year reminds me to be understanding, gentle, sympathetic and caring as I chose COMPASSION to guide me into the new year and decade. The word itself surprised me as I thought I would choose something else. I was seeking a word that embraced power and strength when COMPASSION chose me from out of nowhere.
And now as the word unfolds into my goals, dreams, intentions, ideas and life–I am reminded to lean in compassionately. Even if the buds are bursting forth and I don’t feel ready to do the same I can relax into the comfort that compassion provides. It’s an invitation to feel, not to push or rush, but to soften.
If you like me are not feeling like you’re as ready as the crocus to bust out into life–reconnect to what nourishment you crave. Lean into what is calling you with curiosity rather than an action plan. Listen. Ask the questions that are stirring within. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Stop comparison and rest in the life-giving present moment.
This is the place of riches–of power and strength. It’s in the Here and Now that we find the rest we need for tomorrow, the inspiration for the next season. When you’re ready to greet the field of possibility it will be ready for you, now lean in, lean in to the nourishment, the love and the peace. It is within you and will unfold to yourself one bloom at a time.
Cheers, Jenny
