Do you know the saying, Save the best for last? Well, that may work for dessert, reading the end of a book and opening presents on Christmas, but when it comes to self-care, refilling YOUR CUP, listening and fulfilling YOUR needs and desires it just ain’t a good idea to save that for the end. Fill up first. It is rudimentary to open your arms and receive before giving your energy to others. Otherwise you are trying to pour with nothing in the tank. This is my truth at least. And I am willing to hedge bets it’s yours too. I know that is not how many of us were raised, but how you were raised doesn’t have to dictate how you live from here. Receive so you can give.
When I save eating my breakfast until after everyone else is fed, my shower time when everyone else has bathed, my ME time (meditation, prayer, silence) after all needs of others are met, I’m screwed. I grow horns. I turn into the She Devil becoming the opposite of who I desire to be. Instead of hating the lady with horns and a tail, I am learning to love her. She has wisdom in her pointy tail, truth in her upright ears. Her wisdom guides me and teaches me about the power, love, and joy of putting my needs first. She shows me how all involved benefit when I feed, shower, and slow down FIRST. It is then that I am able to emerge as who I am meant to be with my tail and horns shinning with love not poking with anger.
Sure save your dessert for later, don’t skip to the end of the book and open the prettiest wrapped present after the others, but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT save YOU for last.
Any questions?
Cheers, Jenny
